Android App

Install, set up, and use the Teak app on Android phones and tablets

The Teak app for Android lets you save links, notes, voice memos, photos and files from your phone or tablet, share into Teak from any app, and browse your whole library, in sync with your other devices.

Requirements

  • An Android phone or tablet running Android 12 or newer
  • A Teak account

Install

Get Teak from Google Play and sign in with your Teak account.

On first launch, choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, or Sign in with email or Register with email. Sign-in finishes on the Teak sign-in page in a browser tab, then brings you back to the app.

Saving Content

Open the Add tab to save something new:

Action What it does
Note or link Type or paste any text or link
Voice memo Record a voice note; Teak transcribes it
Photos & videos Pick up to 20 photos or videos at once
Camera Take a photo
Files Pick up to 20 documents or other files at once

Uploads keep going in the background, with a Saving to Teak notification that shows the progress, so you can leave the app while a large file uploads. Teak asks to send notifications before your first upload. Uploads on the Add tab lists what’s waiting, uploading and saved.

If you reach the Free plan’s card limit, Teak tells you before saving.

Press and hold the Teak icon on your home screen for New note and Voice memo shortcuts.

Share Sheet

Save from another app without opening Teak:

Share from any app

In any app (Chrome, Photos, Files, and so on), tap Share.

Choose Teak

Pick Teak from the share sheet.

Done

A small sheet shows Saving to Teak… while it saves, then closes.

To save text from a web page or another app, select it and choose Save to Teak from the selection menu.

You can share links, text, images, videos and files, up to 20 at a time, with the same format support as the web app (see Features). If the sheet asks you to sign in, open Teak, sign in, then share again.

If you also installed Teak’s web app from Chrome, the share sheet lists Teak twice. The Android app saves without opening anything, so keep that one. See Install the web app.

Your Library

Your library works like the iPhone app: search, filters, cards, links between notes, editing, folders and smart folders, tags, Revisit, Archive and Trash all behave the same way. See Your Library on the iPhone and iPad page.

A few things are different on Android:

  • Tablets: on a wide screen, such as a tablet in landscape, the navigation rail lists Home, Favorites, Archive, Trash, Folders, Add and Settings. Favorites, Archive and Trash open as their own pages, so the library leaves out their filter chips. Phones and narrower windows keep the bottom bar, with the Favorites, Archive and Trash chips above your cards.
  • PDFs: View document opens a PDF in the app, page by page. Tap the open-in icon at the top to read it in another app instead.
  • Palette colors: + Add color opens a sheet with a hex code field and a row of colors to pick from, instead of the system color picker.
  • Photos and voice memos: tap a photo to see it full screen and pinch or double-tap to zoom. Tap or drag along a voice memo’s waveform to jump to that point.
  • Offline: when you lose your connection, Home says so and keeps the cards it already loaded. Favorite, archive, mark done, edit, move to Trash or restore a card, or save a new note or link, and the change shows right away and syncs when you’re back online, even if you close the app. Images you’ve already seen stay available. To keep a card and its file for later, open the card and choose More → Keep offline; it then opens, plays and shows its PDF without a connection. Remove offline copy in the same menu frees the space. Opening the app with no connection doesn’t load your library yet, and search, More like this, Refresh details and adding tags or folders still need a connection.

Settings

The Settings tab lets you:

  • Open Tags to rename, merge, or delete your tags
  • Choose a Theme: Auto (follows your phone), Light, or Dark
  • Turn on Wallpaper colors to color the app from your wallpaper (Material You), in light and dark. It’s off until you turn it on, so Teak’s red stays the default.
  • Choose Teak’s Language; it’s saved to your account, so the web and your other devices follow it. See Language
  • See your account email, card usage, and plan
  • Sign out
  • Delete account, after typing the confirmation phrase Teak shows. See Delete Your Account
  • Open Help and docs or the Privacy policy

Troubleshooting

Teak isn't in the share sheet
  • Scroll the share sheet’s app list; Android puts apps you use often first.
  • Make sure Teak is installed from Google Play and you’ve opened it once.
A shared item or upload is missing
  • Open the Add tab and check Uploads. A failed upload says why.
  • Check that you were signed in when you shared the item.
A video won't play

Some phones can’t play every video format. Tap Open in another app on the card.
