Save anything from the web to Teak with the browser extensions

The extension for Chrome and Firefox saves pages, images, links, selected text, and supported social media posts. The Safari toolbar saves the current page and comes with the Teak app.

Install for Chrome and Chromium

The extension works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and other Chromium browsers.

Install for Firefox

The Firefox extension has the same features as the Chrome one. It needs Firefox 140 or later.

In private windows, Teak runs only if you allow it: open about:addons, choose Teak, and set Run in Private Windows to Allow. If Firefox is set to always use private browsing, Teak forgets your sign-in and any unsent saves when Firefox closes, and the popup says so.

Safari toolbar

Install and enable Safari saving with the Mac app guide. Click the Teak toolbar icon to sign in when needed and save the current page. The context menu, inline save buttons, file upload, and address bar search below are Chrome and Firefox features.

Auto-Save on Open

When you open either extension popup, Teak automatically saves the current page. In Chrome and Firefox, the popup shows the page’s icon and title with its site, and says whether it was saved, was already in your library, or cannot be saved.

In Chrome and Firefox, saving a page that’s already in your library says Already in your Teak and moves that card to the top of your library, bringing it back from Archive if it was there. Teak doesn’t make a second card. The Safari extension says Saved to Teak either way, and moves the card the same way.

In Chrome and Firefox, choose Upload file from the ⋯ menu at the top of the popup to save a supported local file up to 100 MB; the popup then shows the file’s name and size. Firefox closes the toolbar popup when a file picker opens, so in Firefox Upload file opens a small Teak window to choose the file in.

Add tags and a note after saving

In Chrome and Firefox, once the page is saved, the popup shows Add tags and Add a note in the same card. If the page was already in your library, they show its current tags and note so you can change them.

• Type a tag and press Enter or comma. Your most used tags, and the ones you used last in the extension, are suggested as you type.
• Tags and the note save when you press Enter, leave the field, or close the popup. The popup stays open once you click into either field.
• Tags can be up to 64 characters. If a change can’t be saved, the popup keeps what you typed and offers Retry.

Chrome and Firefox Features

Save with a shortcut

Press Alt+Shift+S (⌥⇧S on Mac) to save the page in the current tab without opening the popup. The Teak icon in your toolbar shows how it went:

If you’re signed out or have reached your free plan limit, the popup opens instead so you can sign in or upgrade. Pages Teak can’t save, such as chrome:// pages and add-on stores, show !.

To use a different shortcut, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts in Chrome (or your browser’s equivalent), or in Firefox open about:addons, click the gear, and choose Manage Extension Shortcuts. Change Save this page to Teak.

Already in Teak

While you’re signed in, the Teak icon shows ✓ when the page in your current tab is already in your library, and its tooltip reads Already in Teak. To show it, the extension asks Teak about the page’s address when you switch tabs, a page finishes loading, or you come back to the window. It remembers each answer for five minutes, so a card you delete in Teak can keep its ✓ for up to five minutes. Cards in Trash don’t count; archived cards do. Saving a page marked ✓ moves its card to the top of your library.

Pages in private and incognito windows are never checked, and neither are browser pages such as chrome:// and about: pages.

Context Menu

Right-click anywhere on a page to access quick-save actions:

Text saved this way keeps the page it came from. The card shows From and the site in its details, the site shows under the text in your library, and site: searches find it. Selected text that is only a URL is saved as a link instead.

Context menu saves are available on standard web pages. Teak does not attempt to download local, private-network, file:, or blob: URLs; use Upload file when you own a local file.

Address bar search

Search Teak without opening it: type teak in the address bar, then press Space or Tab, and type what you’re looking for.

• After two characters, your top five matching cards appear as suggestions, each with its title, type, and site. Choose one to open it in Teak.
• Press Enter on what you typed to open the full search in Teak. Press Alt+Enter (⌘+Enter on Mac) to open a card or the search in a new tab.
• Search qualifiers work here too, such as #design, type:image, or site:example.com. Hidden cards never appear.
• If you’re signed out, the suggestion reads Sign in to Teak to search; press Enter to sign in.
• In Firefox, the first row reads Search Teak, and a row under it says when nothing matches or Teak can’t be reached.

Teak doesn’t keep what you type in the address bar.

Social Media Inline Save Buttons

On supported sites (Instagram, Pinterest, X, Hacker News, Sidebar, and HeyDesigner), Teak injects a save button directly into each post or story, so you can save individual items without leaving the feed. Buttons appear automatically once you are signed in, and each saved post is deduplicated.

The buttons need Teak’s access to websites. In Firefox you can turn that access off in about:addons under Teak’s Permissions and data; saving from the toolbar button still works without it.

Language

In Chrome and Firefox, the popup, the right-click menu, address bar suggestions and the inline save buttons use the language you chose in Teak Settings → Appearance → Language, once you’re signed in. Signed out, they use the last language Teak saw, or English. The extension’s name and description in your browser follow your browser’s language. See Language.

Free Tier Limit

Sign In

In Chrome and Firefox, choose Sign in in the extension popup and approve Teak in your browser. In Safari, the toolbar button uses your Teak app sign-in; if you’re signed out, choose Sign In and finish in the Teak app. Your connection stays signed in across restarts.

Manage access in Teak Settings → Security → Connected apps. In Chrome and Firefox, Sign out is in the popup’s ⋯ menu, under your email. Signing out disconnects the extension across all its installations; reconnecting can take about 15 minutes. If the saved connection has already expired, sign-out clears only this device and says so. If the network fails, credentials stay saved so you can retry. In Chrome and Firefox, interrupted saves stay pending so you can retry them after reconnecting, or discard them from the popup.

Build from source

The extension is open source, and the store packages are built from the repository’s release tags. To build the same package yourself:
