Terms and conditions for using Teak

1. Overview & Acceptance

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Teak web app, the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android apps, the browser extension, Raycast, the CLI, the API, and MCP (together, the “Service”). Teak is built and run by Praveen Juge (“Teak”, “we”, “us”).

By creating an account, installing our apps, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

2. Service Description

Teak is a personal knowledge hub that helps you capture, organize, and search inspiration and references across devices and integrations. Your cards are private to your account; Teak has no public sharing.

3. User Accounts

Registration: provide accurate information and keep your sign-in secure. You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to agree to these Terms where you live. If you’re under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission.
Responsibilities: you are responsible for all activity under your account, including activity through API keys and apps you connect. Tell us right away about any unauthorized access.

4. Acceptable Use

Permitted: store and organize your content; use Teak across supported apps and integrations; build your own tools with the API, CLI and MCP; export your data at any time.
Prohibited:
- storing or saving content that is illegal, including content that exploits children, or that infringes someone else’s rights;
- using Teak to harass, threaten, or harm others;
- uploading malware or malicious code;
- probing, scanning, reverse engineering, or breaking the security of our systems, except as allowed by our open-source license for code you run yourself;
- using Teak’s link fetching to reach content you aren’t allowed to access, or to attack or overload other websites;
- getting around plan limits, rate limits, or usage restrictions, or creating multiple accounts to do so;
- reselling or redistributing the Service without our permission.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules (see Section 12).

5. Content & Intellectual Property

Your content: you keep ownership of everything you save. You give us a limited license to store, copy, process, and display your content only as needed to run the Service for you, including creating thumbnails, previews, tags, summaries, and transcripts. This license ends when you delete the content, except for copies in backups until they’re overwritten. You confirm you have the rights to the content you upload.
Our content: Teak’s name, logo, and design belong to us. Teak’s source code is open source under the MIT license, and that license governs your use of the code; it doesn’t give you rights to the Teak name or logo.
Feedback: if you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.

6. AI Features

Teak uses AI to create tags, summaries, and transcripts for your cards. AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete, so don’t rely on it for important decisions. Your content is never used to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy for how it’s processed.

7. Third-Party Services and Integrations

The Service relies on third-party providers listed in the Privacy Policy. If you connect Teak to another tool, such as Raycast AI, an MCP client, or your own scripts, that tool’s terms and privacy policy apply to how it uses your data. We aren’t responsible for third-party tools you choose to connect.

8. Subscription & Billing

Free plan: up to 200 cards and every feature, for personal use. No credit card required.
Pro plan: unlimited cards. Current prices are on the pricing page and at checkout.
Payments: purchases are processed by Polar, which acts as our merchant of record and reseller and handles payment, taxes, and invoices. Polar’s own terms apply to the purchase. Prices may not include taxes, which are added at checkout where required.
Renewal and cancellation: Pro renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. Cancel anytime from Settings → Plan; Pro stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Refunds: new Pro subscriptions get a full refund if you ask within 30 days of your first payment. Email [email protected] from your account’s email address. After that, payments are non-refundable, including for unused time, unless the law requires otherwise.
Price changes: we’ll tell you at least 30 days before a price change applies to your subscription. You can cancel before it takes effect.
When Pro ends: your cards stay safe. If you have more than 200, you can keep viewing, editing, and exporting them, but you can’t add new cards until you’re back under the limit or on Pro.

9. Service Availability

Uptime: we work to keep Teak available, but we can’t guarantee it will always be available or error-free. Maintenance or outages may cause interruptions.
Changes to the Service: we may add, change, or remove features. If we discontinue the Service, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice so you can export your data, and refund any prepaid time you can no longer use.
Backups: you can export your data at any time. Keep your own copy of anything you can’t afford to lose.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or business interruption.
Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50.
Some places don’t allow these exclusions or limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory local law.

12. Termination

By you: you can delete your account at any time. See Delete Your Account. Deleting your account cancels any Pro subscription immediately. Data is removed as described in the Privacy Policy, and refunds follow Section 8.
By us: we may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or the law, or that put other people or the Service at risk. Where practical, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to export your data. If we close your account without cause, we’ll refund any prepaid time you can no longer use.

13. Copyright Complaints

If you believe content stored in Teak infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with the work you believe is infringed, where the content is, your contact details, and a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorized and that your notice is accurate. We’ll review it and act as the law requires.

14. Apple App Store

If you got Teak from Apple’s App Store, these Terms are between you and Teak, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, isn’t responsible for claims about the app, and is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also follow the App Store’s Usage Rules.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles.

16. Dispute Resolution

Informal resolution: contact us first at [email protected]. We respond within 7 business days, and most problems end there.
Courts: if we can’t resolve it informally, disputes go to the courts of India, which have exclusive jurisdiction.
Consumers: if you use Teak as a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can also bring a claim in your local courts where those laws allow it.

17. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes, we’ll notify you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new Terms. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account before they take effect.

18. General

Severability: if any provision is unenforceable, the rest stay in full force and effect.
No waiver: not enforcing a provision doesn’t mean we give up the right to enforce it later.
Assignment: we may transfer these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of Teak. You may not transfer them without our permission.
Entire agreement: these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Teak about the Service.
